|Parents Address Real Life with Asthma|
More than 100 parents, children, medical professionals and volunteers joined in the 9th Annual Asthma Family Day at All Children's Hospital on Saturday, May 15 to talk about Real Life With Asthma.
In an effort to help parents and children learn about successful strategies to manage asthma, The Suncoast Pediatric Asthma Coalition, All Children's Hospital, the Pinellas County Health Department, and other community partners hosted the free event as part of an on-going community effort to increase and improve asthma education.
The event was co-chaired by Kristen Rogers and Manda Henderson, both parents of asthmatic children. Speakers from All Children's included Wassam Rahman, MD and Karen Baybut, RN, BSN. In addition, Morna Dorsey, MD addressed questions about allergies. Stan Stoudenmire with the Health Department spoke on Environmental Triggers and Donna Finegold, RN, BSN addressed dealing with your child's asthma at school.
Childhood asthma is a significant health issue affecting our community. Children miss more days of school every year due to asthma than any other illness. Nearly 1 in 10 children in the U.S. have asthma.
The Coalition meets the third Tuesday of every month at 5:30 pm in the Education and Conference Center. For more information about the Asthma Coalition or to be added to our email list, contact firstname.lastname@example.org
