|All Children's Hospital Welcomes Chief Operating Officer Roberta Alessi|
Roberta M. Alessi, M.H.S.A., joins All Children's Hospital as Chief Operating Officer on March 10, bringing three decades of expertise that will help All Children's become a national leader in pediatric care. She will oversee many key hospital divisions and service areas, including but not limited to Nursing, Rehab Services, Diagnostic departments, Home Care and the regional network of All Children's Outpatient Care centers in eight counties.
Roberta joins All Children's Hospital after 32 years at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., where most recently she served as Vice President of Operations. In this role she managed a $120 million operating budget and 530 full-time staff across a wide range of hospital departments and services. During her time at Children's National, Roberta was responsible for numerous departments, including health information management, project management, information technology, materials management, security, safety, emergency readiness, environmental services, construction, space planning, engineering and central supply. She was a key member of the executive team.
"We are very pleased to have Roberta join All Children's Hospital to help lead our journey," said Jonathan Ellen, M.D., President and Physician in Chief of All Children's Hospital and Vice Dean and Professor of Pediatrics for Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. "She brings experience and expertise that will help All Children's improve the health of children in our region and state and help us bring transformational change to pediatric health care."
During more than 20 years of progressive executive leadership in hospital operations at Children's National, Roberta provided leadership and oversight of numerous projects. She directed the hospital-wide implementation of a $25 million inpatient electronic medical record and physician computerized computer order entry system and also led the implementation of a $30 million Enterprise Resource Planning management system. Additional roles she has held at Children's National include Corporate Compliance Officer and Executive Director of Operations.
Roberta also helped expand the Children's National network of regional affiliates. She played an integral role in implementing Children's National Specialists of Northern Virginia, a Children's National Medical Center affiliate providing integrated services between doctors and pediatric surgical facilities in Northern Virginia. In addition, she led the planning for the opening of a Children's National pediatric emergency room at United Medical Center, bringing additional pediatric services and emergency care to underserved areas of Washington, D.C.
"As soon as I walked through the doors of All Children's it felt like home," says Roberta. "The mission is the same mission that I've had for 32 years. I've been very impressed by the pride that All Children's employees take in their work and their compassion for patients and families. I look forward to working together."
