CanSurvive Conference at All Children's Hospital Provides Interactive Forum for Cancer Survivors

CanSurvive Leardership
(L-R) Nicki Vance, Sheryl Reed, Gregory Hale, Deborah Del Favero
Last weekend, survivors of pediatric and young adult cancer participated in the CanSurvive Conference hosted by All Children's Hospital at the Outpatient Care Center. The two-day event provided survivors and their families with an educational forum implementing three tracks pertinent to survivorship: medical issues, healthy lifestyle choices and integrative medicine.

Dr. Gregory Hale, All Children's Medical Director for Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Blood and Marrow Transplantation opened the conference and welcomed participants to the event.

The CanSurvive Symposium Committee was chaired by Deborah Del Favero, RN, MSN/ED and Dr. Hale. Also serving on the committee were Christina Diamond, Mary Mahoney, Sheryl Reed, CanSurvive Clinic Director Dr. Kelly Sawczyn, Amy Spence, Dr. Jan Wencel, and Sandy Wismer.
Funded by the American Cancer Society's Childhood Cancer Survivorship Grant, the CanSurvive Conference offered sessions concerning nutrition, exercise, stress management, infertility and other topics essential for survivorship, an area important to clinical care and research in pediatric oncology.

Speakers included: Dr. Daniel Mulrooney of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Dr. Stacey Robinson of Robinson Concierge Medicine and Dr. Gwendolyn Quinn of Moffitt Cancer Center.

All Children's Hospital looks forward to offering the CanSurvive Conference again in the future.
