|Tim Wise to share insights on Racial Inequities in Health Care|
Tim Wise, a prominent anti-racist writer and educator, will share his insights on "Racial Inequities in Health Care" with medical professionals and the community as a whole on Friday, April 26 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the All Children's Education and Conference Center, located at 701 4th Street S. in St. Petersburg. The program, which corresponds with National Minority Health Month, is free and open to the public. Wise will also be the keynote speaker later that evening at Eckerd College-The Wireman Chapel from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for the 5th annual Stand Against Racism for YWCA Tampa Bay. This event is also free and open to the public.
Several community organizations have come together to sponsor Wise for the entire day including: All Children's Hospital, The St. Petersburg Healthy Start Federal Project, Center for Equal Health, Moffitt Cancer Center, YWCA, Mt. Woodson African American Museum
An internationally-known expert on racism, Wise lectures throughout the world on issues of comparative racism, race and education, racism and religion, and racism in the labor market. Wise has provided anti-racism training to teachers, and trained physicians and medical industry professionals on how to combat racial inequities in health care. He also has worked with corporate, government, entertainment, military and law enforcement officials on methods for dismantling racism in their institutions, and with journalists to eliminate racial bias in reporting.
Wise is the author of six books, including the highly acclaimed memoir, "White Like Me: Reflections on Race From a Privileged Son" and his latest work, "Dear White America: Letter to a New Minority" which examines white anxiety in an increasingly multicultural nation.
