Kathleen (Kate) Smiley is the March 2013 Employee of the Month

Kathleen (Kate) Smiley Kathleen (Kate) Smiley is the March 2013 Employee of the Month. Kate works as a speech pathologist at All Children's Outpatient Care, Ft. Myers and has been with All Children's since 1999. Kate was recognized for her Service Excellence by one of her co-workers, who said:

I would like to nominate Kate Smiley for Employee of the Month for her service and dedication to All Children's Hospital. The Ft. Myers team hosted our 5th Annual Breakfast with Santa on December 15, 2012. This event started as a small gathering for the patients with hearing impairments and has grown in success every year due to Kate's efforts. The planning and organization started months ago and required a great deal of time. Kate also worked hard communicating with our local business partners and members of the community to secure their donations and support.

For the past two years Kate had the great idea to give the gift of books, which the patients and parents loved. Kate will be the first to give credit to the Ft. Myers staff for volunteering their time and support to a truly wonderful event which our patients, families, and staff look forward to each year. We are able to do all of this at no charge to our patients' families, relying on donations of supplies and help from volunteers. We had over 250 people, patients and their families, attend the party this year. From receiving gifts from Santa, to eating pancakes and other treats, to having their face painted, to decorating cookies, to playing games and making crafts, our patients and their families have given us positive feedback that they enjoyed this event very much. The continued success of our Breakfast with Santa is due to Kate's dedication and attention to detail, which makes it a joyous occasion for everyone. I would like to thank and honor Kate for the countless hours she volunteered for this event. Without Kate's initiation and dedication, our annual Breakfast with Santa would not have been as successful these past five years.

Kate's Department Director added:

Year after year, Kate has given freely of herself and her time to make this event happen. She gets all the staff excited about the event, so they and some of their families participate. The turnout of patients, siblings and their parents has grown each year. Not only does Kate get the staff involved, she gets the community involved as well. The past two years singers from a local theater sang Christmas carols while the therapy staff provided activities for the children. This has been a great event for our Center and is the result of Kate's vision to make the holidays a little brighter for our patients.

Kate, thank you so much for your wonderful Service Excellence and all you do for our patients and families in the Ft. Myers community.
