What is The DAISY Foundation?
Learn more aboutThe DAISY Foundation
DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of a rare disease called idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura. The Foundation supports research along with services for families and patients. It recognizes the compassion and clinical skills of nurses with programs like the DAISY Award.
What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Award is a nationwide program to celebrate excellence in nursing. More than 150 hospitals across the U.S. present a monthly DAISY award. The winner receives a framed certificate of recognition, a DAISY lapel pin, and a sculpture called A Healer's Touch. The winner's unit enjoys a special breakfast of Cinnabon's (Patrick's favorite) to remind the staff members how special and important they are in the care of patients and families, and a DAISY award banner is displayed on the unit. All nurses who are nominated receive a DAISY lapel pin and a letter recognizing their accomplishments.
Who is eligible for the DAISY Award?
Any nurse who has provided compassionate, high-quality care and has done an outstanding job of teaching, working with a team, being sensitive to cultural issues, and speaking up for your child when needed.
