Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is a federal program designed to make it safe, easy and convenient for children and adults to walk and bicycle to school. Our chapter of Florida SRTS (led by All Children's Hospital) encourages children and parents to walk or bicycle to school, map safe routes for travel, identify solutions to current traffic concerns, and increase enforcement of traffic laws.

Programs

Learn about our numerous ways Safe Routes to School can help parents, children, educators, and administrators improve bicycling and walking routes to and from your school:

  1. Pedestrian and Bike Safety curriculum educates children about walking and biking safely, while encouraging them to walk or bike often.
  2. Walking school bus SRTS helps to organize parents and volunteers to escort a group of children on a route walking to and from school.
  3. Bike Rodeo traffic safety skills course are held at schools or community events. This provides a fun and safe environment to practice bicycle skills, so that children can ride with confidence and experience, while learning about the laws of the road.
  4. Community Events SRTS can assist in special events for pedestrian/bicycle safety. SRTS staff can either provide helmets or properly fit helmets. Conduct bicycle rodeos and offer fun interactive learning games.
  5. International Walk to School Day SRTS staff helps to support fun and safe walking through an annual event held one Wednesday in October to encourage students, teachers, and parents to get out of the car and walk to school.
  6. National Bike to School Day SRTS staff helps to support fun and safe biking through an annual event held one Wednesday in May to encourage students, teachers, and parents to get out of the car and bike to school.
