Updates to Sick Call Procedure
Due to the H1N1 Pandemic, ACH is making these changes regarding calling in sick from work:

  • IF YOU ARE INPATIENT NURSING DIVISION STAFF (INCLUDING THE EC) calling in sick for any reason OR TAKING PTO TO CARE FOR A FAMILY MEMBER WITH FLU, contact the Nursing Supervisor (NS). This can be done through the hospital's switchboard - (727) 898-7451. Simply ask the operator to page the Nursing Supervisor (pager #083), who will ask you if you or your family members have flu-like symptoms (see below). This information will be forwarded to Employee Health for trending to help us monitor H1N1 activity in our employees and community. The Nursing Supervisor will then transfer your call to your Director/Manager/Supervisor to complete the usual sick call process.

  • ALL OTHER STAFF calling in sick for any reason OR TAKING PTO TO CARE FOR A FAMILY MEMBER WITH FLU should follow normal procedure. Your Director/Manager/Supervisor will ask you if you or your family members have flu-like symptoms (see below). This information will be forwarded to Employee Health for trending to help us monitor H1N1 activity in our employees and community.

Flu Symptoms

Flu symptoms can be mild or severe - and if they're mild can become severe without much notice. Be aware of your body and monitor your body temperature. Flu symptoms can come on suddenly.  The common symptoms of the flu include:

  • Fever (usually high)
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Chills
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Runny nose may also occur but is more common with children
  • Stomach symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur but are more common with children
